Prosperity is the most effective lullaby to put humanity's spiritual compass to sleep. This moment of triumph, standing high on the mountaintop of spiritual euphoria, can bring us the closest we've ever been to God - as well as the most endangered we've ever been of falling.

Maybe what is most incredible to me about all of this is that David preceded Christ by about 1,000 years, and yet his life is one of the Bible's realest examples of "Christian" living. It is here in the rich stories of Israel's history that we find the clearest pictures of what everyday, lifelong commitment to God looks like.
